The Hindemith Oboe Sonata tends to sound a bit mechanical, although the first movement is humorous, and the third movement has some beautiful moments. The whole deserves 4 stars. Poulenc's Two Pieces For Oboe And Piano is delightful. Poulenc was little inspired by string instruments, (as can be seen in other works, for example the Cello Sonata written between 1940 and 1948). The sonata uses borrowings, including self-citations.
